All Knotted Up Comic 4
We meant to get this posted before the holidays, but both @markedforpower and I have been working on new stories so this took a backseat. I’m already nostalgic for my fantasy crew. Hope you enjoyed the set of comics they’re in! I know I did!
What To Do While Waiting For Queries
If you’re one of the lucky (read: twitchy, anxiously refreshing email, sleepless) writers that has sent queries out, you’re likely stuck in a waiting game.

Nervously watching the clock, expecting to hear back from your prospective agents any second. If you want to drive yourself mad, I suggest you continue stalking them on twitter. Oh and be sure to click the refresh button on your email right about now. And now. BUT! If you rather reclaim your life and regain your sanity, I’ve come up with some things you can do in the meantime:
Write something new! It could be a blog post, flash fiction, a short story or getting words down for your new WIP.
Bake a cake! You best make it shaped like a book. You know, for good luck.
Watch TV or a movie! The Neverending Story or The Words should do quite nicely.
Go out with family or friends! Take a drive, to the mall, or a location shopping area. Why? To a bookstore of course!
Spend time in the outdoors! Getting to know how paper is made from trees can be thrilling. And you just might be inspired with a new idea or two.
In all seriousness, it’s probably best you take your mind off your queries. So while the above list still applies, you should do other things than refresh your email. Try to focus on non-writing related topics or adventures to hold your attention. I try my best to only check my email a few times a day and spend the rest offline. What do you do to pass the time when waiting on queries?
Fantasy Cliches
Hello Readers!
I posted another fantasy blog on There And Draft Again that I think you should check out (especially if you’re a fantasy author). It takes a look at a few typical fantasy clichés and how you can either make them your own, or break them entirely. Given the competition in the fantasy realm lately, these tips might be integral to getting your story seen and read over others. Take a look!
Flash Fiction Riddle
We collect together in a vast bastion, overlooking the darkened land below. Not a single face around me is the same. We belong to the same legion, and yet none of us are alike. Young and old, large and small. I can see warn out lines that wrinkle some of the hardened faces, and the weak grins of others. We’re prepared for the event ahead, knowing there is only one path for our short lives.
The strong, steady gray blocks that hold us back are near to letting us loose. When they finally erupt, in an army elbow-to-elbow, we escape the fortress and barrel onward. In a terrifying hoard, we rush to the battlefield and clash with our fearsome opponents. Some of my fellows die by the hands of the giants with hundreds of arms. There are those that fall into stacks, piling onto their fallen brethren—their bodies blending together. Others crash against the enemy wall and smash into a thousand pieces. There is no winning this battle. There is only the hope of surviving longer than the individual next to you. I was one to be so lucky.
I came to rest against a friend, laid out on an otherwise empty knoll. Our time grew short as dawn broke over the land and spread the suns warmth over all the fallen. The spirits of those long past faded into the morning, while those that remained could only wait for their impending death. I greeted the sun as a long-lost friend, knowing that however short my life has been, I will rise again.
What am I?
